The National Office of SCM of India and its Programme Centre is based in Bangalore. Students can make use of the Centre, which is equipped with a Library, facilities of conference hall and accommodation up to sixty people.
SCMI is affiliated to the World Student Christian Federation, the oldest ecumenical student movement, founded in Vadstena, Sweden in 1895 moulded by the great evangelical awakening. The Federation grew with the emergence of national movements including the Indian SCM founded in 1912 at Serampore, Calcutta. SCMI has the history of generations of students who tried to discern their context and mission who strived to become genuine Christians in different walks of life.
SCMI has thirteen regions all over India covering nineteen states with rich and large cultural diversity. Local Unit is the main expression of the life of SCMI, where students try to articulate their faith response to the world. Local Units come together and constitute 'Region' helping each other to sustain the Regional specificities in study and action. SCMI brings the Regional SCMs together to evolve the student agenda and function as a National Movement.

Whitefield is 26 kms from Bangalore City and the Ecumenical Christian Centre is a twenty minutes walk from the Whitefield Railway Station, 12 kms from the Airport and 2.5 kms from ITPL.
The Ecumenical Christian Centre was established in 1963 by the late Rev.Dr.M.A.Thomas by soliciting financial and spiritual support from various sources. He served the Centre with distinction till he voluntarily retired in 1980. He died on June 25, 1993 and is buried at the ECC campus. In his autobiography, Rev.Thomas writes: "As long as the Centre exists, its prime message is that humankind is one, irrespective of colour, creed and sex.."
The Ecumenical Christian Center (ECC) was established in 1963 by a stalwart late Rev. Dr. M. A. Thomas, with the vision of promoting “the unity of humankind as an expression of radical obedience to Christ.” ECC offers a forum for believers and non-believers alike to congregate and engage in dialogues on moral and ethical values and for social change and harmony. In the words of Rev. Dr. M. A. Thomas, founder Director of the Center, “The role of the Center is to promote and strengthen the winds of change. Through its action oriented study, the center seeks to create ripples and more ripples which will converge one day.”
ECC is located in Whitefield, the cradle of Bangalore 's IT Industry. Its sylvan campus of 29 acres houses 27 buildings, including staff residence and facilities for conferences and conventions. ECC is registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1956 as a charitable institution, and is governed by its articles. There are 22 constituent bodies in the ECC Council from the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions. In its objectives, ECC has educational, social and cultural concerns. |
