History
Kempe Gowda founded the city in 1537 - today it is a bustling and diverse city, with ancient arts that flourish alongside the Silicon Plateau of India! Bangalore is also known as Bangaluru (in the Kannada language). During the British Raj, it became a centre for colonial rule in South India. The establishment of the Bangalore Cantonment brought in large numbers of migrants from other parts of the country. Since the independence of India in 1947, Bangalore grew to become the capital of Karnataka state. Today, as a large and growing metropolitan city, Bangalore is home to some of the most well-recognized colleges and research institutions in India, and has the second-highest literacy rate in the nation.

Climate
Due to its high elevation, Bangalore enjoys a very agreeable climate and it is free from extremes. It is considered to be climatically a well favored city situated in the heart of the South Deccan of Peninsular India. The summer in India is very hot at other places, while the people of Bangalore have to use blankets at night during the summers. For this reason the city is sometimes called 'the Air-conditioned city' of India.
